When playing as a male character, you are Derek's old friend from high school, and he is the only one you know at the party. Derek was added to the game in 0.7.0, and a large part of his role is answering questions that come up during opportunities. In certain storylines Derek will offer to help you deal with Frank, or you will offer to help Derek find out who sold meth to his little brother. Derek has a fraught relationship with Madison following a recent hook-up, and the disappearance of his cat Purgalicious.
